How Welcome to Budapest Began
Welcome to Budapest began with private airport transfers, but I never wanted the journey from the airport to feel like a silent drive between two addresses.
Visitors often arrive with many questions. They want to know what to see, where to eat, how the city works and how to use their limited time well. I realised that the first drive into Budapest could already become part of their experience.
This idea developed into More Than a Transfer: a private airport transfer accompanied by a visual introduction to Budapest. While guests sit comfortably in the car and watch pictures of the city on an iPad, I share stories, practical advice and an introduction to the places they may visit during their stay.
Over time, many guests asked me to show them Budapest personally. Private sightseeing tours, countryside day trips and longer private transfers gradually became an important part of Welcome to Budapest.
Why I Enjoy Showing Budapest and Hungary
I have to be honest: when I was younger, Hungarian history often did feel like a distant school subject. It was usually presented as a long sequence of dates, rulers and battles that did not seem connected to everyday life.
That changed as I grew older and began looking at Budapest differently.
The streets, bridges, monuments and buildings around me became parts of one long and complicated story. I began to understand how Roman Aquincum, medieval Buda, Ottoman occupation, Habsburg rule, the Austro-Hungarian era, two world wars, the 1956 Revolution and the communist decades all shaped the city we see today.
Hungarian history is now one of the subjects I most enjoy discussing with guests. It is not because every chapter is glorious or simple. Quite the opposite. Hungary’s past is filled with achievements, tragedies, contradictions, difficult choices and remarkable examples of survival.
When I speak about these stories, I am not describing an anonymous destination. I am talking about my city and the history of my homeland. I believe guests can feel when someone is sharing a subject that genuinely matters to them.

My private tours are not based on a rigid script. Every guest arrives with different interests, different expectations and a different level of energy.
