People often ask me why I don’t like to call what I do a “tour.”
After all, I show guests around Budapest, explain the city, and help them discover places they wouldn’t find on their own.
The answer is simple:
the word “tour” carries expectations that don’t match the experience I offer.
What Most People Associate with the Word “Tour”
For many travelers, a tour means something very specific.
- a fixed route
- a strict schedule
- a list of must-see sights
- a guide delivering a prepared speech
- a group moving together at the same pace
There is nothing wrong with this format.
It works well for many people.
But it doesn’t work for everyone – and it has never reflected how I like to show Budapest.
What I Actually Do Is Different
What I offer is not about covering as many landmarks as possible.
It’s about helping you understand the city in a natural and relaxed way.
Instead of following a preset program, we shape the experience around you.
Your interests, your questions, your energy level – these matter more than any predefined route.
- No rigid itinerary
- No memorized speeches
- No pressure to “see everything”
- Plenty of room for questions and conversation

Understanding Budapest, Not Just Seeing It
Budapest is a city that makes much more sense when you understand its layers.
History, architecture, daily life, and recent changes are all connected.
Instead of presenting isolated facts, I focus on context. Why certain buildings look the way they do. Why neighborhoods developed differently. How history still shapes everyday life today.
This approach often leads to fewer stops – but deeper insight.
Who This Approach Is Designed For
I don’t try to be the right choice for everyone. This way of exploring Budapest works best if you:
- prefer private experiences over group tours
- don’t enjoy rigid schedules
- value understanding over ticking boxes
- like conversations rather than lectures
- want to move at a comfortable, flexible pace
If that sounds like you, calling it a “tour” would be misleading.
Who You Explore the City With Matters
My name is Tamás.
I’m a lifelong Budapest local, and before starting my own private experiences, I worked for many years in high-end hotels, including as a chief concierge.
That background shaped how I work today.
I focus on clarity, comfort, and genuine insight – not performance.
My role is not to lead you from stop to stop, but to help you see Budapest through local eyes.
