Tihany Peninsula: One of the Best Stops at Lake Balaton
Tihany is one of the most special places around Lake Balaton. The peninsula stretches into the lake, offering wide views, quiet streets, traditional houses and a slower atmosphere that feels very different from Budapest.
The most famous landmark is the Benedictine Abbey, standing above the lake with one of the most beautiful views in the region. Even if you do not go inside, the setting itself is memorable: the abbey, the village, the lake below and the hills in the distance all come together in a very classic Balaton picture.
Tihany is also known for lavender, small shops, old stone houses and viewpoints where you naturally stop walking for a moment. It is not a place to rush through. It is a place to look around, breathe, take photos and enjoy the quiet side of Hungary.
Balatonfüred: Lakeside Promenade and Classic Balaton Atmosphere
Balatonfüred is one of the most elegant towns on Lake Balaton’s northern shore. It has a long lakeside promenade, historic villas, cafés, flowers, old spa-town atmosphere and beautiful views across the water.
A walk along the promenade is one of the easiest ways to understand why Hungarians love Balaton so much. It is not only about swimming or summer holidays. It is about the rhythm of the lake: walking slowly, sitting down for coffee, watching the boats, talking, and letting time become a little less important.
For many guests, Balatonfüred becomes the gentler part of the day after Tihany. Tihany gives the panorama and the village feeling; Balatonfüred gives the lakeside walk and the classic holiday mood.

It requires a short uphill walk, but the reward is the kind of view that makes the extra time worthwhile. From above, Lake Balaton, the surrounding hills and the countryside open up in a way that feels almost cinematic.
Szigliget works especially well for guests who enjoy history, landscapes and photography. If you prefer a calmer day with less driving, we can focus only on Tihany and Balatonfüred. If you want a fuller countryside experience, Szigliget Castle can be a fantastic highlight.

Suggested Itinerary for a Tihany and Balatonfüred Day Trip
Every private trip can be adjusted, but a relaxed version of the day usually looks like this:
Morning Departure from Budapest
We leave Budapest in the morning and drive toward the northern shore of Lake Balaton. The drive itself is part of the experience, as the city slowly disappears and the landscape becomes more open and rural.
Tihany Village and Abbey Area
The first major stop is usually Tihany. We can walk through the village, enjoy the view near the abbey, stop for photos and talk about the history and traditions of the peninsula.
Lunch or Coffee Stop
Depending on your preference, we can include a relaxed lunch, a coffee break or a lighter stop. Lake Balaton is a good place to try Hungarian dishes, local flavours and seasonal countryside food.
Balatonfüred Promenade
After Tihany, Balatonfüred gives the day a softer lakeside rhythm. A walk along the promenade is easy, pleasant and beautiful, especially with the lake, flowers, old villas and boats in the background.
