Welcome, you’ve just found me. My name is Tamás Gráf, and after 12 years in Budapest’s top hotels, in 2017 I created my own brand: Welcome to Budapest.
One of the most requested experiences is my Danube Bend Full Day Tour, a private scenic journey from Budapest through Dobogókő, Esztergom, Visegrád and Szentendre, four destinations that together tell the story of Hungary’s nature, history and charm.
Start from Budapest → Dobogókő – The Heart of the Danube Bend
Our journey begins from Budapest at around 10:00 AM.
Within less than an hour, the city fades and the road leads us into the forested hills of Dobogókő, one of Hungary’s most peaceful and spiritual viewpoints. The drive itself is part of the magic curving mountain roads surrounded by trees and fresh air.
While we are on the road, if you like, I’ll tell you about the origins of the Hungarian kingdom and why many locals believe this place is the “heart chakra of the Earth.” The panorama from the lookout point opens toward the Pilis mountains and the Danube Valley, a moment of quiet beauty before the history that follows.
Esztergom – Hungary’s First Capital and the Basilica
From Dobogókő we continue 25 minutes to Esztergom, a city that once served as Hungary’s capital and remains its spiritual centre. The Esztergom Basilica is the largest church in the country, towering over the Danube.
The main church hall is free to visit, while access to the cupola viewpoint, crypt and panorama café requires a combined ticket (4200 HUF / 10 EUR).
The dome climb includes 400 steps -real adventure- but once you reach the top, you’ll understand why it’s worth every one. From up there, the Danube stretches below, Slovakia lies just across the river, and the rooftops of Esztergom spread out like a painting.
After the visit, we cross the Mária Valéria Bridge into Štúrovo (Párkány), Slovakia, for a ten-minute detour, from here you’ll have one of the most striking views back to the Basilica. In one day, you’ll experience two countries and some of the most symbolic views of the Danube Bend.
Visegrád – Royal History and Castle Panorama
Next is Visegrád, a 30-minute drive along the river.
Once the seat of Hungarian kings, the Visegrád Castle (Fellegvár) offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Danube Valley.
The entrance fee is 2500 HUF / 6 EUR.
While you explore the castle and its royal exhibitions, I’ll wait in the car or if you’d like company, I’m happy to join and share stories about Hungary’s medieval kings and the Golden Age of Visegrád.

Szentendre – Baroque Charm and Riverside Relaxation
Our final stop is the colourful town of Szentendre, about 40 minutes from Visegrád.
Known for its art galleries, baroque houses and Mediterranean feel, Szentendre is a favourite among locals and travellers alike. Cafés spill onto terraces, musicians play on the street, and the Danube glimmers between the buildings.
This is the perfect place for a late lunch and a slow walk. Most guests spend around 2.5 hours here, exploring the Old Town and relaxing by the water before we return to Budapest in the evening.
