Some guests first meet me at the airport, others in the hotel lobby or at their river cruise ship – but the feedback is almost always the same: “We felt from the very first email that you were the right person to welcome us to Budapest.”
My name is Tamás Gráf, I am a Budapest-born local Hungarian guide and driver, and my Budapest private tours are all about comfort, clear communication and a truly personal connection with the city.
Instead of following a rigid script or rushing from sight to sight, I build each tour around you: your pace, your interests and your energy level on the day.
Whether we explore Budapest by private car, on foot, or a mix of both, the goal is simple – by the time we say goodbye, you should feel that you have really seen and understood the city, not just ticked off the highlights.

Why choose my Budapest private tours?
Over the years many guests left detailed reviews on TripAdvisor about their experience. They describe the tours as “simply outstanding”, “10 out of 5 stars”, and say they learned more with me in a few hours than on several days of group touring. Here is what they often highlight:
- Local, experienced guide: I was born and raised in Budapest, I speak fluent English, and I genuinely enjoy sharing stories about Hungarian history, culture and everyday life.
- Comfortable private car: For most Budapest private tours we use a spacious, air-conditioned car – ideal for seniors, travellers with limited mobility, and anyone who prefers comfort to crowds.
- Flexible, tailored itinerary: We can focus on the must-see highlights, lesser-known neighbourhoods, or a mix of both. We stop where you want to stop, for as long as you like.
- Clear communication: Guests often mention that from the first email they felt taken care of – I answer questions quickly, keep an eye on timing, and always show up when and where we agreed.
- Storytelling, not lectures: My guiding style is relaxed and conversational. You are not listening to a memorised text – we talk, we laugh, and you can ask anything about Budapest and Hungary.
Private tour pricing is always per car, not per person, with a clear, fixed rate agreed in advance.
Types of Budapest private tours I offer
Every traveller is different – some guests have only a few hours between programs, others want a full day to explore. Here are the private tour formats that work best in Budapest, all of them fully customisable:
3-5 hour Budapest Highlights Private Tour (mostly by car)
If you only have limited time in Budapest, or if you want a clear overview before exploring on your own, this is the ideal choice. We travel comfortably by private car and stop at the most important places so you can decide where to return later. In just a few hours we cover the main sights on both Buda and Pest – without rushing, without crowds, and always at your pace.
Perfect if you want to see the essentials and still have time left for photos, enjoy the panoramic views and tell you the story of Hungary.
8-hour Big City Private Tour – Budapest in One Day
A full-day experience with the right balance of sightseeing by car and short, meaningful walks. This Budapest private tour includes approximately 2 hours in the Castle District on the Buda side, 45 minutes in City Park (Városliget), 45 minutes around the Parliament area, plus several scenic viewpoints and short photo stops along the way.
This format is ideal if you want to feel like you’ve truly “done” Budapest by the end of the day – without being exhausted or overwhelmed.
Budapest Night Tour – the City of Lights (3 hours)
Budapest has a second personality after dark – bridges, palaces and riverside monuments are illuminated like a stage set. During this private night tour we stop at the most breathtaking viewpoints and enjoy a gentle 30-minute walk in City Park, where the Vajdahunyad Castle and the lake area feel almost magical in the evening silence. A relaxed, stylish way to end your day in Budapest.
Budapest Private Tours for Seniors
A calm, comfortable touring style with a private car, minimal stairs, easy access to restrooms and cafés, and plenty of time to rest. We combine short walks and viewpoints based on energy levels, and I adapt the pace as we go. This format is designed to be enjoyable, not tiring – guests often tell me it felt like spending the day with a friend, not a guide.
Budapest Private Walking Tour – Castle Hill & Hungarian History
If you prefer to explore on foot, we can spend 2-3 hours in the Buda Castle District, where every corner has a story to tell. While walking through medieval streets and royal courtyards, I guide you through the key chapters of Hungarian history – from the Ottoman era to the Habsburgs, from WWII to 1956 and modern life. A personal, story-driven walking tour that brings the past to life at the actual locations where it happened.

Who are these Budapest private tours perfect for?
First-time visitors – If this is your first time in Budapest, a private sightseeing tour helps you understand the layout of the city, the main stories behind the buildings and the best areas to return to later on your own.
River cruise guests – Many guests meet me while staying at a hotel before or after their Danube cruise, or during a free afternoon away from the group program. They often comment that they learned more in a few hours on a private tour than on several large-group excursions.
Seniors and guests with limited mobility – A private car and a flexible schedule mean we can always choose the easiest access, shortest walks and most comfortable viewpoints. There is no need to hurry to keep up with a big group.
Curious travellers who like to ask questions – If you enjoy real conversation, local stories and honest answers about life in Hungary today, Budapest private tours with a local guide are the best way to experience the city.

How a typical private tour in Budapest works
Most tours start directly from your hotel, apartment or river cruise ship. I pick you up in a clean, comfortable car and we briefly talk through the plan for the day – what you definitely want to see, what you have already visited, and how you are feeling physically. Then we set off, combining panoramic viewpoints, short walks and photo stops.
Along the way we cover the full arc of Budapest’s story: the Kings, Ottaman occupation, Austro-Hungarian days, the two World Wars, the communist period, the 1956 revolution and modern Hungarian life. Guests often tell me that the city “comes alive” when they hear these stories while actually standing in front of the buildings and monuments.
We can also include small extras: a traditional coffee and cake stop, a visit to a local market, a quiet moment in a church, or a detour to a favourite viewpoint if the weather is good. At the end of the tour I drop you back at your accommodation or another central location of your choice.
