Welcome, you’ve just found me.
I’m Tamás Gráf, founder of Welcome to Budapest.
I was born here, and over the years I’ve guided many guests – mostly from the U.S., Canada, Australia and the UK – through the stories that shaped Hungary.
This Budapest History Tour is not a typical sightseeing route. It’s a walk through time, set in the most atmospheric part of the city: the Castle District of Buda can be extended for a full-day Budapest sightseeing experience by car.
I guide in a calm, unhurried way focusing on context, stories and details most visitors usually miss.

Walk through a thousand years of Hungarian history

We start at your hotel and drive to Buda Castle Hill, where we park close to the old town walls. From there, we take a gentle walk through narrow medieval streets and baroque courtyards while I share Hungary’s story, from the conquest of the Carpathian Basin, through the royal and Habsburg centuries, to the world wars, communism, and modern democracy.
Every corner here tells a story:
the Mátyás Church, Fisherman’s Bastion, the remains of medieval houses, the Sándor Palace and the Royal Palace, the Ministry of Defence, and the Carmelite Monastery where government meetings are still held today.
And as we walk, the view of Pest, the Parliament, the bridges, the endless roofs, perfectly connects the past and the present.
The tour is designed to be relaxed and inspiring, not academic. You’ll learn about kings, wars, revolutions, and daily life but always with humour, context, and an open conversation. It’s history you can feel under your feet.
