What to Expect on This Private Balaton Day Trip
We usually start at 9:00 in the morning from Budapest. After around 1.5 hours of driving, we arrive at one of the most famous and most beautiful areas around the lake: the Tihany Peninsula.
Tihany Peninsula, Abbey and Lake Views
Tihany is one of the true highlights of Lake Balaton. Guests can visit the famous Benedictine Abbey, founded almost 1000 years ago, and enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramic views over the lake. The village itself is charming, relaxed and full of local character.
Tihany is also known for its lavender tradition, so guests can browse among the locally known Tihany lavender products and small specialty shops while enjoying the atmosphere of the peninsula.

Balatonfüred and a Relaxing Walk by the Water
From Tihany we continue to Balatonfüred, one of the most elegant towns on the lake. Here guests can take a pleasant, relaxing walk along the beautiful Tagore Promenade, enjoying the fresh air, the proximity of the water and the classic Balaton atmosphere.
This is also a perfect place to try some simple but iconic Hungarian treats. Depending on your mood, you may want to taste a freshly made lángos or a sweet kürtőskalács while watching the lake and the passing boats.

Optional Lunch in a Traditional Hungarian Countryside Restaurant
If you wish, lunch can be enjoyed in a traditional Hungarian countryside restaurant, a classic csárda. It is a great way to add another local layer to the day and enjoy authentic flavors in a relaxed rural setting.
Choose Your Afternoon Program
After lunch, there are two excellent directions the day can take. Some guests prefer history and panoramic views. Others choose the wine experience, which is one of the great pleasures of the Balaton region.
Option 1: Szigliget Castle
One option is to visit the medieval Szigliget Castle. After a short but slightly steep uphill walk of about five minutes, guests are rewarded with one of the most impressive panoramas around Lake Balaton. The view from the castle is spectacular, and the historic setting adds a special atmosphere to the experience.
This is an excellent choice for guests who enjoy history, scenery and places with character.
Option 2: Balaton Wine Tasting
The Balaton wine region is one of the most attractive wine areas in Hungary. The hills around the lake, the volcanic soils in certain parts of the region, the soft climate and the sunlight reflected from the water all contribute to wines with freshness, elegance and strong local identity. White wines are especially important here, and a wine tasting in this setting is not only about the glass itself but also about the landscape, the people and the atmosphere around it.

Private Vineyard Experience in Vászoly
One possibility is to visit the vineyard of a dear friend of mine in Vászoly, a lovely village with beautiful views toward Lake Balaton. This is a more personal and intimate experience, where my guests are welcomed in a unique way and can enjoy fantastic wines in a warm, friendly setting.
Alongside the wines, guests can learn about the traditions of family winemaking while enjoying handmade cheese and a local cold plate. It is relaxed, authentic and full of character. And yes, when the mood is right, the pours tend to reflect genuine Hungarian hospitality.
Dobosi Family Winery
The second wine tasting option is at the Dobosi family estate. The Dobosi family has been involved in winemaking since 1721, and this long tradition adds real depth to the experience. Guests can enjoy the wines of the estate together with a cold platter, in a setting that represents the Balaton wine world in a more classic winery atmosphere.
Both options are excellent. The best choice depends on whether you prefer something more intimate and personal, or a more established family estate with deep historical roots.
